Lipid Disorders and Atherosclerosis

Lipid disorders and atherosclerosis are among the primary contributors to cardiovascular disease, significantly increasing the risk of coronary artery disease, stroke, peripheral artery disease, and myocardial infarction. Dyslipidemia, characterized by elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, triglycerides, and reduced high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, plays a central role in the development of atherosclerotic plaques and vascular inflammation. Recent advances in lipidomics, cardiovascular biomarkers, genetic testing, and imaging technologies have enhanced early detection and risk stratification, enabling clinicians to identify high-risk individuals before the onset of major cardiovascular events. Novel lipid-lowering therapies, including PCSK9 inhibitors, RNA-based therapeutics, and combination treatment strategies, are transforming cardiovascular prevention and long-term disease management.

This session will highlight current advances in lipid metabolism, atherosclerosis pathophysiology, preventive cardiology, and evidence-based lipid management. Experts will discuss emerging pharmacological therapies, international cholesterol guidelines, cardiovascular risk assessment, inflammation in atherosclerosis, precision medicine, and innovative approaches to reducing residual cardiovascular risk.
