Cardio-oncology

Cardio-oncology is an emerging multidisciplinary specialty dedicated to preventing, detecting, and managing cardiovascular complications associated with cancer therapies. Advances in cancer treatment have significantly improved patient survival; however, many chemotherapeutic agents, targeted therapies, immunotherapies, and radiation treatments may adversely affect cardiovascular function, increasing the risk of heart failure, arrhythmias, hypertension, thromboembolism, and cardiomyopathy. Early cardiovascular assessment, risk stratification, and continuous monitoring are essential for minimizing treatment-related cardiac toxicity while ensuring optimal cancer care. Collaboration between oncologists, cardiologists, radiologists, and healthcare professionals has become increasingly important in delivering personalized and comprehensive patient management.

This session will explore recent developments in cardio-oncology, including cardiotoxicity prevention, cardiovascular imaging, biomarkers, precision medicine, long-term survivorship care, and evidence-based management strategies. Experts will present clinical guidelines, innovative diagnostic tools, cardioprotective therapies, and multidisciplinary care models that support both cardiovascular health and effective cancer treatment.
